Leinani (“Lei”) Cataraha is a native of Kona and comes from a family of generational coffee farmers, ranchers, and Hawaiian practitioners. She is the eldest of two children of Maile and Russel David and her diverse heritage is comprised of Hawaiian, Portuguese and Filipino descent. She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration and Management from Colorado State University, and is a graduate of Konawaena High School. She began her career in healthcare in 1999 as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Keauhou Rehabilitation Center (now known as Lifecare Center of Kona). Lei and her family left Kona and moved to Washington State in 2003, where she worked full-time as a front office receptionist at The Everett Clinic (TEC) in Mukilteo while attending evening classes at North Seattle College. Her position at TEC further increased her dedication and desire to advance towards more healthcare opportunities. She was given the opportunity of on-the-job Medical Assistant training from the clinical staff at TEC and excelled in its Internal Medicine department for the next five years. Because of her dedication to healthcare and deep desire to return home to Kona, Lei responded to a classified ad for a Medical Assistant at Ali`i Health Center in 2008, which at that time, was in its infancy. She was hired, returned home to Kona and quickly transitioned from Medical Assistant to Clinical Coordinator. Some of Lei’s notable roles include her promotion to Operations Director in 2010, coordinating the relocation of five Ali`i Health Center clinics to one central location at the Keauhou Shopping Center in 2012, and recently, appointed to her current position as President & CEO of Ali’i Health Center. Beyond her professional pursuits, Lei cherishes her `ohana and enjoys gathering with family and friends, camping, hula and cooking
